Making a Difference

Because everyone is in such a giving mood at this time of year, we’re faced with so many options for ways to help. We’re asked at check out if we want to donate to a charity, we have Giving Tuesday, and we see the people with the bells collecting for the Salvation Army when we’re out shopping. All of these are great ways that charities are generating more money during the Holidays, but have you considering giving more than loose change but don’t know where to start?

I stumbled across a site a couple of years ago called Volunteer Match, and it’s pretty amazing. You can put in your location and a cause that’s important to you and it will find the charities in your area that could use some help. Don’t know what cause you’d like to help out with? That’s fine, they also have an option to browse a variety of areas and see what’s available in near you. It’s a really great resource and giving of your time can be so rewarding.

So, maybe, once the hustle and bustle of the Holidays die down, and the National Day of Service for Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday approaches, consider looking for an opportunity to share a little of yourself with some organizations that could use it. I’m planning on helping the Children’s Scholarship Fund of Philadelphia with their Application Drop Event!

I’ll end this post with a really great quote I saw today that I think pretty much sums up what volunteering is all about:
“To make a difference in someone’s world, you don’t have to be amazing, rich, talented, beautiful or perfect. You just have to be you and CARE!” ~Rebecca Fox
